Stoneglow is a set of three resin cast stones that interact with one another using infrared communication. Each stone has its own inherent color, red, green, or blue. When a stone is placed within range of another stone, they begin communicating. Each stone will broadcast its inherent color as well as receive the color of any stones nearby. The stones capture these incoming messages and change their color accordingly, creating all colors along the visible light spectrum.

While Stoneglow began as an experiment in electronics, we often found ourselves thinking about what engages people in play. The size, texture, and shape of the stones were crucial to the overall design. We wanted to create functional art that encouraged touch, stimulated curiosity, and was approachable by everyone.

Stoneglow was a collaboration with Minsoo Lee and Rory Nugent.
